Test your waste sorting skills – compost, recycling, landfill, and specialty items – by playing the Zero Waste Sorting game at http://zerowastegame.colostate.edu/! This game will be available for play through October 21st.
To play the Zero Waste Game you will use your NetID and password at the link above. You will be asked how to best dispose of items and drag and drop them in the appropriate waste stream (ie, trash, recycling, compost, techno-trash, cardboard or ReusePass Container Collection) at CSU.
Why is Proper Waste Sorting Important?
Sorting waste plays an important role in reducing waste, conserving resources, and mitigating environmental impacts of waste. When waste is thrown in the wrong bin, it negatively impacts systems like recycling and compost.
Contaminated waste streams can lead to:
- Entire bins of recycling thrown out if landfilled materials end up in them
- Electronic waste leakage into water streams due to E-waste ending up in the landfill
- Increased methane emissions due to compostable materials ending up in the landfill
